Proper High Tea

What is it about high tea that makes children so excited? It's probably that it's all their favourite food at once: fish fingers, triangles of buttered bread, peas and lots and lots of cakes for afters.

Make it easy on yourself: the cakes should be shop-bought Mr Kipling wonders, definitely not home-made, and in lieu of a proper cake-stand, we arranged them on three plates stacked one above another, with a small glass between (stick the bottom of the glass to the plate above with white tac to make the whole thing steadier). Nice eaten outdoors in summer too.
