24th Aug 2007 Pat and Lyn Great story. I was evacuated to a chicken farm in 1939 - that was in August before the war had actually started - and had good fun like you chasing the chickens and putting them to bed each night. But the best bit was helping to look after the baby chicks all running round cheeping and crashing into each other. I was only there for about three months but it was a good introduction for a seven-year-old city girl.

13th Aug 2007 dog Wow what a naughty chicken I wouldn't get chickens anyway because the foxes would eat them.

7th Aug 2007 Georgie We were on holiday on a farm last week and go woken up by one especially vocal cockerel at about 4.30am every morning. But the eggs were something else - the yolks seemed yellower and bigger and lots tastier, even than the organic free range I normally buy. I was making omelettes with runny middles which I haven't felt tempted to do for years. Happy hens, happy eggs, happy people...
